The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released new guidelines for using electric cigarettes, or e Cigs, to aid smoking cessation. The FDA’s newest policy helps it be illegal to sell any type of e Cigs that advertises or suggests a smoke-free option to traditional cigarettes. They have also banned the sales of many of the most popular and well known brands of e Cigs. So what’s the big deal?

Well the reason the FDA and the American Medical Association are receiving tough on vapor products is because of the serious tobacco health risks associated with using them. Electronic cigarettes do not release smoke like a cigarette does, but they deliver a vapor that lots of smokers find extremely uncomfortable. E-Cig users have reported everything from nausea and throat irritation to coughing and chest pain just smelling as an ashtray. This might sound harmless, but it is best not to take chances, particularly when it comes to your lungs.

Also, there exists a big difference between regular cigarettes and e Cigs. Nicotine may be the substance that makes cigarettes addictive in the first place. Electric cigarettes don’t contain any nicotine, just a sort of flavoring chemicals. While this flavoring is meant to simulate the sensation of a cigarette, no-one is quite sure how it actually works. It’s easier to regulate your impulse to light than it is to do that with regular cigarettes. Also, e-Cigarettes don’t cause nearly just as much damage to your lungs as regular cigarettes do.

The main one possible downfall to electric cigarettes is that you will not be able to get as much of the flavor from your own electronic cigarettes as you’ll from a regular cigarette. Because you don’t have the puffing associated with smoking, you might lose out on a number of the wonderful flavors that you’ll get from a regular cigarette. If you don’t mind passing up on that flavor, then e-Cigarettes may be perfect for you. However, if you like your regular cigarette, then electronic cigarettes may not be the best thing for you personally.
